NIGHTMARE OF MOLLUSC! contains writing on withdrawal – humanity’s retreat from a world of high-anxiety, existential risk, and information overload, into a world of comfort, dopamine, and endless distraction.
Withdrawal is not an isolated phenomenon. It describes a common thread across art, culture, tech, sex and relationships, climate, politics, and more. Nightmare of Mollusc! is about unpicking that thread, and – in theory – spinning it out into a more hopeful vision for the future.

I’ve been writing about the crossroads of art, culture, and technology since 2018, mostly for Dazed, where I’m a senior writer. The title is intentionally vague, and will stay vague – that way, I can write about anything that interests me. Typically, this includes space, AI, internet culture, art that challenges how we think, its convergence with pop culture, and the shifting sense of what it means to be an intelligent life form on planet Earth.
